Dorm room bed

Dorm room bed
You or a family member is heading back to college. You’re all loaded up and you drive off to start your collegiate career. Only to find that when you get there the twin or full size bed waiting for you in the dorm is the most uncomfortably small bed you’ve ever slept in. You’d love to fit a Queen or King size bed in your room but the space is limited. There is an answer however – Extra long beds.

Extra long beds provide simple answers for longer beds in a small space. What exactly are extra long or xl beds though? Basically your taking a standard twin or full size bed and you’re making it 5" longer. Doesn’t sound like much right? Well it’s the difference between sleeping someone who is 6’ 3" to sleeping someone 6’ 8". You’d be surprised by how much more comfortable it is to have more length to a bed.

Take someone who sleeps in a queen size bed. These beds measure 60" x 80". Now let them sleep in a twin size bed which measures 39" x 75". They can probably deal with the width being less but now the length of the bed is shorter making them closer to the end of the bed. Typically this means over hanging feet or if you’re unlucky enough perhaps hitting your feet against a cold metal foot board or a rough feeling wood one.

Extra long beds are the solution. Twin size extra long beds are offered in a size that is 39" x 80". Now you have a queen length bed but in a smaller width that should be able to fit most spaces. The same can be said for Full size extra long beds. These beds measure 54" x 80" and also give you the same length as a queen size bed.

It’s surprising that not everyone knows about these sizes of beds and they are usually quite shocked to find out that there are other sizes out there besides twin, full, queen and king beds. Speaking of king beds you’d be surprised to know that king is also available in a size called California king. This size originated from back in the water bed days and these beds measure 72" x 85". The longest bed in standard sizes.

In this article we’ve discussed extra long beds and how they may offer more comfortable sleeping that typical dorm beds. We discussed the sizes the are available in which are twin extra long (twin xl) and full extra long (full xl). We also looked briefly at California king size beds. So if you’re looking for a better alternative to standard size beds, extra long beds may be your answer.
