Rustic Cabin Living Room

Rustic Cabin Living Room
Vintage Influence
To get a rustic cabin style, you will want to fill your living room with antiques and heirlooms.By displaying some of you grandmother’s china as art on the wall or hanging your antique quilt on the wall, you add some history to your living room while making it cozy.By adding a vintage piece of furniture, you add some architectural interest to your décor as well as adding a conversation piece to the room.If you do not have any family heirloom pieces, you can always check estate sales and thrift stores to see what interesting pieces you can find.

Neutral Backdrop
To keep the feel of your living room rustic, you will want to use earth tones throughout your design.By creating a neutral backdrop for your room, you can add any bold accent colors that you wish to use, and you can easily change them later on as your mood dictates. You can add bold pops of color in your design, or you can water the colors down for a time worn look.

Primitive Textiles
As you consider fabrics in your room, remember to keep your rustic aesthetic consistent.Loosely woven wool fabrics, soft leather and canvas all make great fabrics for upholstery. An area rug adds warmth and texture to the floor, and soft woolen throws let you snuggle into the couch to watch TV or read a good book.

Rustic Display
If you have a collection that you would like to exhibit, think about creating a rustic nook to display your treasures.A crystal collection, spoon collection or vintage picture frame collection can be displayed in their own little gallery nook. When you are looking for accessories in your room, you can use almost anything from an old copper pot to antique, children’s toys to adorn tables and shelves.

Rustic Accent Pieces
Accent pieces again can be elegant or rustic. If you have rustic pieces then you can display them throughout the room, but if your accent pieces are a little more elegant, you will want to juxtapose them against a rustic element. For example, your tiny teacup collection will look best when displayed on rustic shelving, while your collection of ancient Indian arrowheads will display splendidly on a glass shelf.Mixing old and new textures is what gives the rustic living room its appeal. While it may seem rough and unfinished actually quite the opposite is true.A great deal of thought has gone into exactly the best way to display treasures that are both old and new.

By adding personal touches to your furniture, you bring a rustic room to life.Whether it is your favorite book on the end table; a soft throw draped over the sofa back; a knitting bag tucked beside the couch; or a pipe sitting in an ashtray; they all tell the story of the people who live in this room, and that is what gives a rustic living room its charm.
